Common Scams to Watch Out For:

Drop-shipping from overseas: Many sellers operate from overseas, offering low-quality builds or taking payments for watches that are never shipped (including fake tracking information). In our experience, 9 out of 10 online stores fall into this category. Drop-shipped watches have extremely poor quality control and the cheapest parts are used to assemble them. There is NO customer support and NO quality control
- Watch out for stores that claim they are based in North America but actually send you watches from overseas.
Examples of dropshipping/scam sites, as well as ones with questionable legitimacy: Moddys, WatchModCustom, Monomods, NeoLux, Modsera, VVS Jewelry, Wristmodding, Seiko-mod.shop, Premiumhour.uk, Modera, Chrono-mod, Zjani Mods, Luro Watches, My-Watch-Mod, Moddy-Cody, PS Watch mods, NH35ModShop, Trident, GodTierMods, Evotimeless Watches, Oh My Mod Watches, Dwatchmod, Chrono Canada (rebranded to Chrome Watches), Adwatch, Orlier Watches, ModSphere, Aurevi Watches, Circa Watch Labs, Medo Mods, Tempus, The Royal Mods, Chrome Watches, Watches By Cody, Mods By Cody, USAMODWATCH + SKYRIM WRIST and hundreds of other derivative websites resembling these ones.
- New ones pop up through social media every week, especially on Facebook and Instagram, using ads and AI-generated videos. These websites are easily identifiable and are similar in nature. If you see a Facebook/Instagram/TikTok ad for Seiko mods it’s 95% likely to be a fresh scam site.
  - Most websites with “configurators” are all dropshipping/scam sites. If the majority of the stock photos are from configurators it’s a red flag – this is one of the easiest tell-tale signs to stay away.
  - Most of these sites “name” the watches in similar fashion such as “GMTeiko, Seikjust, Nauteiko, Seitona, Seikoak and more”
  - If you come across targeted social media advertisements, the business is very likely a dropshipper. High prominence builders do not have to pay for ads to make sales. Most of the stores paying for ads you can hardly find them on Google to begin with.
  - Beware of websites where customer service is a “team” rather than an individual builder. Talking to someone on their “team” means they are NOT the ones assembling the watch and likely dropshippers.
- If you purchase a watch and the tracking number originates from a random courier from China – sorry you have been taken advantage of. Many of them will also lie to you and indicate the watches are shipped from North America when it is not the case.
- If you do receive a watch, it is a very low quality build. Loose bezels with a lot of play, hands that are not properly cleaned, scratched dials, oils and grease underside the crystal, bracelets that feel super cheap and/or poorly stamped. There are hundreds of manufacturers out there for Seiko mod parts, and these companies will use the cheapest ones.
- Many online stores will “buy” tracking numbers on the black market and will give you someone else’s tracking number, resulting in no actual package coming to you. You will lose buyer protection claims even though you did not receive any package, as tracking numbers they give you are not address specific but rather just show delivered to a city. Other egregious sellers will send an empty package to a nearby location and supply that tracking information to you, or just generate a label and never actually shipping anything out.
Fake reviews and manipulated ratings: A large number stores use fake reviews scraped from Chinese e-commerce sites. Thousands of glowing reviews for a store that’s barely a year old should raise concerns – check the age of the website’s domain to investigate a store’s history. Make a quick Google search on Seiko Mods – if the retailer does not pop up in the first few pages of your search results then something is wrong if they are claiming a massive amount of reviews.
- Trustpilot and judge.me are commonly used and are NOT credible (reviews may be suppressed, removed, modified, hidden, fake). Best to stay away from businesses that use either one of these review sites, it’s all smoke and mirrors.
- You can see how low quality/pixelated photos are from these websites, almost like they were AI created. Photos of some watches don’t even match up with the product being “reviewed”
Commission scams: We’ve heard countless reports of individuals waiting weeks or months for commissioned builds that never materialize. Some even receive fake tracking numbers before communication is cut off entirely. They rely on you waiting past your buyer protection periods with your credit card or payment processor, resulting in you losing money and no hopes of getting a watch.
AI generated/Digital mockups instead of real photos: Many scam stores only show computer-generated images. Often, the same images are used across multiple sites. If a builder cannot provide real photos of their work, they should not be trusted. Many scam stores will steal photos from other builders – which is why we started watermarking all of our photos. Lots of AI-generated videos all over social media depicting watches, or videos stolen from other individuals and given a new voiceover.
Imitation Seiko movements: Low-quality counterfeit Seiko movements have entered the aftermarket with the declining supply of authentic ones available.

How Scam Sites Typically Operate:

Launch a basic Shopify site – a professional AI generated website can be built within 5 minutes
Populate it with digitally generated watch images
Use fake review widgets such as Trustpilot or judge.me to create social proof
Run aggressive ads on platforms like Facebook and Instagram
Entice buyers with discount pop-ups and urgency tactics
Bad reviews will get removed, buyers may be stuck with a low quality or no watch at all
Rebrand and run the cycle all over again (recent example CHRONO CANADA deleting their website and rebranding to CHROME WATCHES)

The majority of scam watch websites operate on platforms like Shopify, which allow for quick and easy store setups. Be cautious if you come across multiple websites with similar layouts, identical or computer-generated product images, and review widgets from questionable sources such as Trustpilot plugins or unverifiable testimonials. These similarities are often red flags indicating the same bad actors behind multiple scam storefronts.

CHRONO CANADA has now rebranded to CHROME WATCHES. They have removed their original website and fake reviews in order to dodge the countless negative experiences shared by other individuals online. Once again, please exercise extreme caution trying to find a “deal” on sketchy sites like these ones. They are hosting their website on virtually the same IP address as the original, with the new domain name registered Spring 2026.

It has been brought to our attention USAMODWATCH is a new business affiliated with SKYRIM WRIST, domain registered in May 2026 and already claiming 3000+ reviews in as little as 3 months! Skyrim Wrist’s “watch workshops” are likely a front to cover their dropshipping from China which massively explains their abundance of negative reviews on their own Trustpilot page! USAMODWATCH’s blog articles also hyperlinks to Skyrim Wrist. Just even look at where USAMODWATCH’s location is based off of in their Judge.me profile. Hong Kong definitely sounds like one of America’s states! Skyrim Wrist is a registered business in Hong Kong with an offshoot branch in USA.

This is the kind of BS we warn everyone about – claiming watches assembled in the USA but no problem sending you an extremely low quality build right out of China! Check Skyrim Wrist’s Trust Pilot reviews, how a business manages to get 30% of their reviews as a 1-star negative is astounding with all complaints citing low quality and lack of care in the builds! USAMODWATCH has over 15 hidden blog pages with AI-generated slop content, all hyperlinking Skyrim Wrist.

You are telling us that a little “stateside builder” in Nashua needs fulfillment and logistics partners to send out watches?
Fulfillment and logistics partners are a STRONG sign these watches are being dispatched from overseas.
What’s wrong with sending out a small package with USPS from their Nashua, NH shop address? SOMETHING DOES NOT ADD UP.

Takeaway: USAMODWATCH AND SKYRIMWRIST are owned and managed by the same individuals with ties to China, obfuscating the origin of their watches and where they are assembled and shipped from. They are NOT just a little shop based out of Nashua NH as they claim, any watches purchased are likely not even shipped from there

So what happens when you buy from a sketchy dropshipper/scam site? You end up with:
– a very poor quality watch, using the cheapest parts available to assemble them
– possibly no watch being delivered at all
– chasing days/weeks for any form of customer service to respond to you when an issue arises
– you gain a very poor purchasing experience, which likely results you never purchasing a Seiko mod again

We understand that flashy websites, fake reviews, heavily marketed websites of this nature exist to deceive potential customers who do not know any better.
This type of information is not publicly discussed elsewhere in Seiko mod communities, which shows you how deeply rooted this industry is in regards to deceptive practices, misinformation, and the cut-throat nature and dirty tactics employed by the majority of the vendors.

We also understand that there are individuals out there that still want to buy watches for the cheapest possible price, and will end up purchasing from one of these sketchy sites regardless of the information we have provided here.
